METHOD FOR INCREASING STRENGTH OF TITANIUM BORIDE/SILICON CARBIDE COMPOUND CERAMICS |
摘要 |
PURPOSE:To obtain high-strength TiB2/SiC compound ceramics by mixing TiB2 powder with prescribed amounts of SiC whiskers or powder and silicon boride and then hot-pressing the resultant mixture under conditions of a specific high temperature under a specified high pressure in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Silicon carbide whiskers or silicon carbide powder in an amount of 5-30vol.% is added to titanium boride powder. Silicon boride (SiB6 or SiB4) in an amount of 1-10wt.% is subsequently added to the mixed powder and the whole is homogeneously mixed. The resultant mixture is sintered by a hot-pressing method at >=1300 deg.C temperature under >=300kg/cm<2> pressure to produce titanium boride/silicon carbide compound ceramics. Thereby, since the silicon boride is added, sinterability of the titanium boride/silicon carbide compound ceramics can be improved to attain a high strength. |
