In a method for cutting a long slit in the wall of a metal tube, a drag wire 18 inside the tube 2 is used to pull a tube cutter, which has a cutting edge 1 located inside the tube, along the inside of the tube for the purpose of cutting the slit. The tube cutter comprises two press rollers 3, cooperating with the cutter 1, and two support rollers 15 for controlling the tube cutter.
