PRODUCTION OF ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER HAVING SLITLIKE PORE AND PRECURSORY PITCH USED THEREFOR

摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain activated carbon fibers having slitlike pores by using precursory pitch for carbon fibers having a prescribed ratio of O to C, a prescribed ratio of H to C and a prescribed ash content. CONSTITUTION:Coal tar pitch and/or petroleum pitch fit for carbon fibers (precursory pitch for carbon fibers) is melt-spun and the resulting fibers are made infusible and activated to produce activated carbon fibers. The precursory pitch used as starting material has 0-0.01 atomic ratio of O to C and 0.45-0.55 atomic ratio of H to C obtd. from the results of elementary analysis and also has <=100ppm ash content.
