1,261,958. Regenerating mineral lubricating oils. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 25 Nov., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968], No. 57603/69. Headings C5E and C5F. Lubricating oil circulating in an internal combustion engine is treated by contact with one or more relatively oil-insoluble binary or ternary transition metal compounds retained in a chamber. The compounds can be used in the form of particles or on a carrier of diatomaceous earth, kaolin, kieselguhr, activated clay, charcoal or fuller's earth in a chamber before or after the oil filter or they can be used impregnated into the papers of the oil filter. Extensive lists of suitable transition metal compounds are given including oxides, salts and complexes. A lubricating oil comprises a solvent extracted neutral SAE low-30 grade base oil, 10 wt. per cent of a polyisobutylene V.I. improver, 3À5- 4 wt. per cent of a polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride imide of tetraethylenepentamine as a dispersant, a wax-alkylated naphthalene pourpoint depressant, a zinc di-(C 4 -C 5 alkyl) dithiophosphate, and less than 1% of an overbased calcium petroleum sulphonate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,205,860. |
