The title cmpd. is prepared by reacting 18-methyl-8,9-dehydro-oestrone methyl ether with bromine and subsequently splitting off HBr from the resulting bromine cpd. The reaction is carried out in solution at temp. of 0 degrees - room temp. The pref. solvent is carbon tetrachloride or carbon disulphide. The products are used as starting materials for the prepn. of pharmaceutically active steroids.
