PURPOSE:To shorten initial operation at a normal time and to perform initial operation with due regard to all of cases by providing the detection means integrally movable along with a recording head and the member to be detected provided to the reciprocating moving route of the recording head and subjecting the detection of the member to be detected to a plurality of judgements. CONSTITUTION:When a carriage 2 is moved to the left to return to an initial position, a part of the carriage 2 comes into contact with an upper arm part 23B to be engaged therewith and further integrally moved to the left along a cap member 23. When the carriage 2 is guided to the initial position, a fixed shutter 28 is detected by the home position sensor 29 provided to the carriage 2 and the initial position is judged. In the operation at an initial time, it is confirmed that the carriage 2 is moved to the position on the right-hand side of a home position sensor shielding plate 28 and, when the carriage passes through a home position while it is moved in the left direction, the setting of a position counter is performed. The carriage 2 is further moved by several steps and, at this place, the initial operation of a circuit for a carriage motor is performed. Thereafter, restoring operation is carried out while gear change- over operation is performed to complete initial operation. |
