PURPOSE:To form a magnetic head having a tape sliding surface of high accuracy with good efficiency by making the leads of MR effect elements and cut quantity detecting elements common in a process for production of a magnetic head using reluctance (MR) effect elements. CONSTITUTION:For example, in the production of a 2-channel magnetic head, MR elements 4, 9 and monitor (cut quantity detecting) elements 3, 8 made of reluctance materials are disposed on a substrate 1, and a common lead 6 for the elements 4, 9 and the elements 3, 8 and a lead 7 connecting the elements 3, 8 are provided, thereby constituting a head chip 11. Next, the leads 5, 10 are connected to terminals 15, 17 for external fetching and the lead 7 to a terminal 16 for external fetching. Between the terminals 15, 16 and between the terminals 16, 17 are connected by resistance value detecting devices R1, R2 respectively, after which chip surfaces 12 are polished and the polishing is stopped when the resistance values of the elements 5, 8 are both reduced to zero, thence the common lead 6 and the terminal 16 are connected, whereby the magnetic head is provided. |
