The device is used for making pressed strands (7) of loose material, e.g. hay, straw, etc., has a press chamber (2) with press rolelrs (1) and a binding device for reeling and stabilising the pressed strand emerging from the press chamber (2) with a binding material (18). The binding device consists of a carrier plate (10) guiding at least one roll (17) of the binder material (18) that can turn about the axis of the pressed strand (7) and surround it. A regulating (29'') or a guiding device (29') incorporates a drive (16) for the carrier plate (10), and by means of this the turning movement of the carrier plate (10) relative to the pressed strand (7) can be regulated or guided to give a uniform prescribed reeling pattern. USE/ADVANTAGE - The device forms a compacted strand of material i.e. hay, straw, with uniform quality of winding even if the feed of the material is uneven.
