PROCESS FOR PREPARING 2-ACET AMINO TIOPHEN

A method for preparing 2-acetamido thiophene of formula (I) comprises (a) dissolving (E) or (E)/(Z)-2-acetyl thiophene tosylated oxime of formula (II) in a mixt. solvent of acetone and H2O, and (b) adding small amount of a base selected from Na2CO3 or triethylamine and reacting the mixture 0.5-1 hr. The cpd. (II) may be prepd. by reacting 2-acetyl thiophene with hydroxylamine HCl and Na2CO3, dissolving the obtd. cpd. in acetone, mixing it with NaOH soln, and adding p-toluene sulfonyl chloride. The cpd. (I) is useful as an intermediate in the prodn. of drugs or dyes.
