1293790 Controlling reactors COMMlSSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 5 Oct 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 46276/71 Heading G6C The reactivity of a nuclear reactor is controlled by the adjustment of the level 8 of neutron-absorbing helium 7 in a tube mounted vertically in the reactor core. The metal tube 4 in the duct 2 of the reactor core 1 contains helium to the level 8 and a vaporizable liquid in the upper space 14. The vapour pressure in 14 is adjusted by the heat generated by the resistor 11 and thereby also the height of the level 8. The vapour formed in 14 condenses on the tube wall 3, in the duct 2, being subjected to the reactor coolant, and rises by capillary action through the porous layer 15 to the heating zone. |
