PURPOSE:To prevent an electric discharge lamp from going out by a control means supplying the lamp with voltage and current for lighting it and operating to keep the lamp discharging stably at all times. CONSTITUTION:An electric discharge lamp lighting device of this invention is provided with an electric discharge lamp 15 and inverter means having a load where choke coils 3, 13 are connected in series with a parallel circuit of capacitors 4, 14, 17. After the lamp 15 is started with the choke coils 3, 13 in resonance with the capacitors 4, 14, 17, the oscillation frequency of the inverter means is switched over, a which time the frequency is set so that the impressed voltage on the lamp 15 just after the switchover is larger than the voltage just before the switchover. |
