PURPOSE:To obtain mechanical and thermal stability and to improve sensitivity by forming a magnetostriction layer of magnetic material containing one or more kinds of metallic sulfide resulting from the reaction of nickel, a metal easier to react with sulfur than nickel and impurities. CONSTITUTION:This strain gauge is constituted of a driven member 1, a magnetostriction layer 2 and a detecting coil 3. The magnetostriction layer 2 formed on the surface of the member 1 is formed of magnetic material containing one or more kinds of metallic sulfide resulting from the reaction of nickel, a metal easier to react with sulfur than nickel and impurity sulfur. The weight ratio of nickel to iron of the magnetostriction layer 2 is preferably 35-60% and 80-100%. Manganese, molybdenum, magnesium, cadmium, titanium or the like is used solely or in mixture for the metal easier to react with sulfur than nickel. Since the metal easier to react with sulfur than nickel is employed, this metal works as a getter of sulfur in the plating film, so that the generation of nickel sulfide is restrained and the fragility of the magnetostriction layer is avoided. |
