PURPOSE:To obtain a sensor element having a stable limiting current by providing a baked porous body with a gas dispersion chamber of a constant space and a plurality of directional gas dispersion holes in the outer periphery of a cathode electrode. CONSTITUTION:An element 10 of an ion conductive solid electrolyte has disk-like cathode and anode electrodes 11a and 11b formed at the upper and lower surfaces thereof. A gas dispersion chamber 13 and a plurality of directional gas dispersion holes 14 of a baked porous body 12 are formed on the electrode 11a. A ceramic plate 15 is rigidly mounted via a plurality of encapsulating materials 16 (e.g. glass) to the element 10 at the side of the electrode 11b. A heating heater 17 is formed at one surface of the ceramic plate 15. Since there are formed the gas dispersion chamber 13 of a sufficient space and a plurality of directional dispersion holes 14 in the porous body 12 by the gasification of an agent which helps formation of voids subsequent to the baking of tire crystallizing glass at the crystallizing temperature, the pumping action of oxygen is stabilized, thereby functioning as a sensor element with a stable limiting current. |
