PURPOSE:To obtain a colored magnesia-base sintered body which is dense, excellent in mechanical strength and fructure toughness with uniform colored state, and suitable for ornamental parts or structural material by intergranularly dispersing cubic zirconia particles in the matrix comprising magnesia solid solution particles to make a fine structure. CONSTITUTION:(A) magnesia powder (of >=99.9% purity, comprising cubic primary particles of 0.1-1.0mum particle diameter by 30-80wt.% and the balance of isometric primary particles of <=0.1mum average particle diameter) by 68-99wt.% (B) granular oxide colorant (NiO, CoO, etc., having <=0.5mum average particle diameter, >=99.9% purity and >=5m<2>/g specific surface area) by 0.5-12wt.%, and (C) granular zirconia powder (having <=0.5mum average particle diameter, >=99.9% purity and >=5m<2>/g specific surface area) by 0.5-20wt.% are mixed, molded and sintered at >=1400 deg.C. The obtd. colored magnesia sintered body has <=20% porosity and such a structure that the cubic zirconia particles are intergranularly dispersed in the matrix of magnesia solid solution particles. |
