PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as perfumes, etc., in high yield for a short reaction time by subjecting a carbonyl compound and an oxirane compound to ring opening addition reaction in the presence of a benzylpyridinium salt. CONSTITUTION:A carbonyl compound (e.g. acetaldehyde or n-butyraldehyde) and an oxirane compound (e.g. methylethylene oxide or n-butylethylene oxide) are subjected to ring opening addition reaction in the presence of a benzylpyridinium salt [e.g. a compound expressed by the formula (R1 and R2 are H, 1-4C alkyl or methoxy; R3 is cyano or nitro; M is metallic atom such as B, P, Sb or Fe; Y is halogen; n is 1-6)] to afford the objective cyclic oxy compound. |
