PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for heat-resistant resin, etc., by reacting an aromatic sulfinic acid having halogen on the aromatic nucleus with an aromatic halogen compound in the presence of an Ni compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective aromatic sulfone oligomer of formula (X is halogen; R is halogen or organic group inert to the reaction; n is 2-4) is produced by successively reacting an aromatic sulfinic acid having at least one halogen atom on the aromatic nucleus or its salt with an aromatic halogen compound in the presence of 0.0001-1mol, preferably 0.001-0.1mol (based on 1mol of the aromatic sulfinic acid or its salt) of an Ni compound (preferably halide) at 60-200 deg.C, preferably 100-180 deg.C. Preferably, a basic compound is added to the reaction system to improve the catalytic activity of the Ni compound. The process is especially useful for the production of an asymmetric oligomer. |
