PURPOSE:To produce a N-non-protected beta-lactam compound in a good yield without difficult processes such as the treatment and removal of by-products by reducing a N-halosulfonyl-beta-lactam compound with hydrogen sulfide or mercaptobenzothiazole and a base. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I[R<1> is the protecting group of OH; A is O, S; R<2> is group of formula II (R<3>-R<6> are 1-6C alkyl, phenyl, aralkyl), when A is O; or R<2> is triphenyl methyl, t-butyl, phenyl, lower alkylphenyl, lower alkoxyphenyl, halogenated phenyl, when A is S; X is phenyl] is reduced with hydrogen sulfide or mercaptobenzothiazole and a base (e.g. amine or sodium hydroxide) in an organic solvent or aqueous solution to produce a compound of formula III. |
