PURPOSE:To efficiently perform check processing by comparing an addition value obtained by performing addition processing on a digital picture element signal in a constant image size range with a prescribed reference value, and deciding whether or not prescribed image processing should be performed corresponding to a result. CONSTITUTION:The above system is provided with a position adjusting mechanism 1, a sensor 2, an A/D conversion part 3, an addition part 4, memory 5, and a CPU 6. When the check processing for the authenticity of paper sheet is executed, the addition value of the whole paper sheet is found by executing pre-processing to add digital image data prior to the check processing, and when the addition value is within a prescribed range, i.e., only when it is worth to execute the check processing for the authenticity of the paper sheet that is a check target, the image processing is executed, and decision for the authenticity of the paper sheet is performed. Thereby, it is possible to eliminate the execution of meaningless image processing, and to efficiently perform the check processing. |
