PURPOSE:To efficiently oxidize a polycyclic compound under mild conditions by culturing a specific microorganism in a culture medium containing the polycyclic compound such as dibenzofuran derived from coal. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism [e.g. Pseudomonas.SP.DBF63 (FERM P-11649)] capable of oxidizing a polycyclic compound in a culture medium containing the aforementioned polycyclic compound selected from dibenzofuran, dibenzothiophene, carbazole, naphthalene, fluorene, phenoxathiin, phenothiazine, phenanthrene and anthracene is aerobically cultured to oxidize the above- mentioned polycyclic compound. |
