摘要 PURPOSE:To enable multichannel optical simultaneous amplification even when a saturation level is limited and a gain has polarization dependency by separating input light frequency multiplexed signal light into two orthogonal polarized components and amplifying them by individual optical amplifiers. CONSTITUTION:Adjacent signal light beams are polarized and multiplexed by polarizing multiplexers 101-150. The outputs of the respective polarizing multiplexers are multiplexed by an optical multiplexer 201. Consequently, the output of the optical multiplexer 201 contains polarized light beams of signals of adjacent frequency components in mutually orthogonal relation. The output after being propagated in an optical fiber 202 is made incident on an optical amplification part 300 and split by a polarization beam splitter 301 into two polarized light beams of the incident signal light. At this time, the polarized light multiplexing is performed at the transmission part, so the two polarized components which are split are nearly equal in intensity. The split signal light beams are amplified by the optical amplifiers 302 and 303 and multiplexed and outputted by a polarization beam splitter 304. Consequently, a sufficient dynamic range can be secured even in simultaneous amplification.
