Hydrocarbon-contaminated ground restoration method - mixes alternate layers of earth and additive in sealed heap

Ground contaminated with hydrocarbon materials is biologically restored using a regenerating heap enclosed by sheet material on all sides and supplied with additives. These contain microorganisms loosening the contaminated earth. The heap is built up of alternate layers of contaminated earth and additive, and then sealed off on all sides. It is then mixed and homogenised, the volatile hydrocarbons being discharge as gas. The air laden with the latter is extracted, and any pollutants are filtered out of it. Unrotted compost can be used as the additive. ADVANTAGE - Fast working, and largely avoids atmospheric contamination.
