The present invention provides a membrane separation system with a recirculating closed loop design and a feed control valve outside the loop which admits feed to the loop under permeate level control. The system is operable with a constant recirculation flow thus minimizing membrane fouling. A fast flush is also possible without closing the permeate valve. <IMAGE>
