METHOD FOR REMOVING HARMFUL SUBSTANCE IN AIR

PURPOSE:To efficiently remove harmful substances from air by bringing the air contg. the harmful substances into contact with porous glassy carbon and adsorbing the harmful substances, which are then desorbed by heating and decomposed by contact with a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Air 1 contg. harmful substances such as CO and benzene is fed at -80 to 100 deg.C and brought into contact with porous glassy carbon 3 obtd. by carbonizing foamed synthetic resin by burning and the harmful substances are adsorbed on the carbon 3. This carbon 3 is then heated to desorb the harmful substances and these substances are decomposed by contact with a catalyst 5 having oxidative decomposing ability at room temp. to 800 deg.C. The harmful substances can be efficiently removed from the air.
