PURPOSE:To enable high-speed processing by performing the subsampling of an original image and compressing the obtained data, finding and comparing a motion vector between images which are small in data amount with the evaluated values of its peripheral vectors, and finding a target motion vector. CONSTITUTION:A subsampling circuit 1 performs the subsampling of the input image horizontally and vertically to, for example, 1/2 and data are reduced in amount to 1/4 and stored in a frame memory 2; and a subsampling circuit 3 performs the subsampling of a comparison image horizontally and vertically to 1/2 and data are inputted to the frame memory. Then a matching circuit 12 calculates absolute value errors between corresponding input image picture elements and comparison picture elements in picture element units and the evaluated value of the error of the motion vector between screen images is compared with evaluated values of errors of peripheral motion vectors to find a motion vector with small picture element resolution. Consequently, the device which is short in processing time can be obtained. |
