Halogen-containing polymers are stabilised against heating by addition of (a) a first stabiliser with the formula (RaSnXb)n, where R is C1-20 alkyl, or aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl, X is oxygen or sulphur or a mixture of 1-10 parts of oxygen and 10-1 parts of sulphur, a = 1 when b = 1.5, or a = 2 when b = 1, and n is 1-1000 when a = 2, or n is 2-1000 when a = 1, and (b) a second stabiliser with the formula (R'cSn(SR")4-c, where R' is (cyclo)alkyl, aralkyl, alkaryl or aryl and R" is a carboxylic acid ester group or is a similar group to R', and c = 1, 2 or 3; if the first stabiliser has the formula (R2SnX)n' X may not be only oxygen and c = 1. Smaller amounts of the stabiliser system are needed, in comparison with known stabiliser. |
