1386259 Packaging liquids IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Oct 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 52009/72 Heading B8C A process of packaging liquids in flexible plastic containers as in Specification 1,251,672 by locating an aperture in the wall of a closed container over an orifice in a smooth surface, inflating the container with gas under superatmospheric pressure through the aperture, displacing the major part of the gas by the liquid, and sliding the container along the surface to a sealing strip which seals the aperture is characterized in that the gas is at least partially soluble in the liquid, and that the initial pressure and volume of the gas, the volume of the gas displaced by the liquid, and the solubility of the gas in the liquid are such that, after sealing the container at superatmospheric pressure, the pressure in the container falls to normal atmospheric pressure when equilibrium is reached. A mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen may be used. The container may be formed of polyethylene or of polyethylene terephthalate or polypropylene coated with polyethylene. The containers may also be coated with a vinylidene chloride copolymer. Soft drinks, wines, fruit juices, motor oil, or distilled water may be packaged. |
