1347977 N - Substituted alkanolamines SCIENCE UNION ET CIE SOC FRANCAISE DE RECHERCHE MEDICALE 1 Nov 1971 [4 Nov 1970] 52469/70 Heading C2C Novel N-substituted alkanolamines of the general formula wherein A is -(CH 2 ) m -, -CH=CH-, -(CH 2 ) p O-, -(CH 2 ) p S- or -SO 2 -NR-, m is 1, 2 or 3, p is 1 or 2, n is 3-10, R is a C 1-5 alkyl group and each of X and Y is a hydrogen or halogen atom, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by condensing a halide of the general formula wherein Hal is a chlorine or bromine atom, with an alkanolamine of the general formula H 2 N(CH 2 ) n CH 2 OH, followed optionally by salifying the product. Pharmaceutical compositions having psychostimulant, antidepressant and analgesic activity comprise, as active ingredient, an N-substituted alkanolamine of the first general formula above or a physiologically tolerable acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, and may be administered orally, rectally or parenterally.
