PURPOSE:To obtain an optical pickup having a high S/N ratio by detecting the luminous flux of the light reflected on a total reflection mirror after dividing the luminous flux into the TE and TM modes. CONSTITUTION:An optical coupler 11 is provided to guide the light reflected on an optical information recording medium 19 to an optical wave guide path 20 together with a total reflection mirror 23 which has an incident angle approximately equal to or a slightly larger than a critical angle toward the center line of a guided luminous flux, and the photodetectors 21 and 22 which detect the luminous flux of the light reflected on the mirror 23 after dividing the luminous flux into the TE and TM modes. Thus it is possible to detect both magneto-optical MO and focus error FO signals based on the reflected light of the medium 19. Then the S/N is improved for a magneto-optical signal. |
