A pulse-driven load, with a parallel impedance, has triggerable charge capacitors (C1-4) in a charge transfer circuit. A h.v. source (3) charges a first capacitor, while a first trigger switch (S1-3) actuates a charge transfer from a first to a second capacitor, such that the latter discharges into the load (LK) at a pulse voltage. At least two partial capacitors form a first charge capacitance, with a separate trigger switch in series with each partial capacitor such that a series sequence of the first HV trigger switch, a first partial capacitor, a second HV trigger switch, and a second partial capacitor is formed. An impedance (L4-6), coupled to the capacitor pole (12,22,32), away from the switch, is earthed (8). USE/ADVANTAGE - Pulsed laser, with low inductance charge transfer circuit and high pulse voltages.
