Vacuum-operated tester of optic nerve pressure tolerance - simulates intra=ocular pressure increase of up to 130 torr during measurement and display of visually evoked potential

Excess pressure within the eyeball (2) is simulated by imposition of a suction funnel (3) connected to a vacuum pump (4) working down to about 500 torr. A control unit (5) is interfaced to scalp electrodes (7), a TV screen (14) and a central processor (20) with video monitor (22) and printer (23). The appts. may be operated by remote control (16) while the user concentrates on the display and printout of the patient's evoked response to the stimulation pattern presented reversibly on the screen (14). ADVANTAGE - Easily handled appts. allows early identification of patients liable to contract glaucoma from intraocular hypertension.
