A shampoo composition contains 0.5-3 parts of a cationic amido amine salt of formula (I), 0.05-1.0 part (s) of a cationic polymer containing quat. N atoms, and 1-10 parts of an amphoteric surfactant selected from cocoamphocarboxy glycinate or cocoamide propyl betaine. Pref. the cationic polymer is selected from (a) quat. ammonium salt polymerized with trimethyl ammonium-substd. epoxide and hydroxy ethyl cellulose, (b) monopolymer of diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride, (c) copolymer of diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride and acrylamide monomer, (d) copolymer of hydroxyethylcellulose and diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride, and (e) copolymer of adipic acid and dimethylamino hydroxypropyl diethylene triamine.
