A path for the transport of fibre flocks has a branch point with a deviation means for the impurities, as well as a metal detector which acts on a control apparatus in such a way that the branch point causes a change in direction as a result of the passage of a metallic object in front of the detector. To simplify the installation of the apparatus and shorten the distance between the detector (11) and the deviation means (14) for the impurities, the metal detector (11), for example an induction coil, is installed above the deviation means (14), and the fibre flocks are transportable by gravity between the detector and the deviation means. <IMAGE>
