In the continuous prodn. of alkyl pentenoates (I) by reacting 4 C fractions (II) contg. butadiene (IIA) with alkanols and CO in the presence of Co carbonyl catalysts (III) and heterocyclic aromatic tert. N bases at 100-160 deg.C and 400-1200 bar, the reaction mixt. is passed through a treatment zone, without back-mixing, as it is formed at 100-160 deg.C, pressure of 250-1200 bar and dwell time of 5-60 min.
