PURPOSE:To remove an aromatic aldehyde by adsorption at a low temp. by utilizing a essential adsorption performance of a carrier and the adsorption performance in the soot and the active carbon and activating effectively the holes where fine particles of carbon are infiltrated into the holes of the carrier or a fibrous structural body. CONSTITUTION:New holes are formed so that the fine particles of carbon are infiltrated into the holes of the carrier and the carrier and the fine particles of carbon are tangled and the holding force to the fine particles of carbon is generated. As for the method of manufacture, the oily substances dispersed with the fine particles of carbon or a single oily substance incorporating no fine particles of carbon is impregnated into the carrier having holes on the surface. Then the carrier impregnated with oily substance is heated below the ignition temp. of the fine particles of carbon dispersed in the oily substance or the oily substance. By secondary holes formed by infiltrating the fine particles of carbon into the carrier and the holes of the fibrous structural body, the aromatic aldehyde is adsorbed and removed at the low temperature as well.
