PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength and enlarge electrode capacity by allowing a conductive base material to support a slurry obtained by means of kneading hydrogen absorbing alloy powders, a binder of at leasr 5wt.% to the alloy, a dispersion solvent and a chelating agent. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen occluding alloy electrode is manufactured by allowing a conductive base material to support a slurry obtained by kneading hydrogen occluding alloy powders, a binder of at least 5wt.% to the alloy and a dispersion solvent. The binder contains polyethylene oxide of at least 0.1wt.% to the alloy, and the slurry is added with a chelating agent. When the hydrogen occluding alloy is kneaded in a dispersion solvent such as water, transition metal is dissolved as ions. The ions act to decompose polyethylene oxide; how ever, the chelating agent in the slurry suppresses the ionization of the transition metal. As a result, the decomposition of the polyethylene oxide is suppressed, thus preventing the slurry from being lowered in viscosity and adhesiveness which enables enhancement of the electrode strength. |
