PURPOSE:To reduce the thicknesses of a vessel and a bulkhead to enhance a reduction in weight of an inflator, and perfectly prevent gas leak at the time of expansion of the vessel by constituting an upper bulkhead and lower bulkhead forming a gas generating chamber so as to allow the swelling by gas pressure. CONSTITUTION:A as generating agent 10 in a gas generating chamber 6 is decomposed at high temperature by the operation of an ignition device 11 to rapidly generate nitrogen gas, which is passed through a filter 7 in the gas generating chamber 6, then sent out from a gas passage 51 bored in the lower part of a lower bulkhead 5, passed through a filter 8, and blown out from an opening part 9 to expand an air bag. A thin upper mirror plate 2 and lower mirror plate 3 forming a pressure vessel 1w and the upper bulkhead 4 and lower bulkhead 5 are swollen, respectively, by the high pressure accompanied by generation of the gas. The top end part of the lower bulkhead 5 is freely fitted to the lower large diameter part 41 of the upper bulkhead 4 in such a manner as to be capable of sliding to form an expansible part, so that the swelling of the upper and lower mirror plates 2,3 is absorbed by the expansible part, and the gas leak from parts other than the gas passage 51 can be prevented. |
