The retaining-lock (3) consists of two sections (4, 5), one connected to a decompression blow-out panel (2), and the other to the separating bulkhead or floor (6). The sections can slide apart, but are held together by axial locking-pins (7, 8), and internal, radially mounted, weak-necked shear-pins (9, 10). A large pressure differential, such as experienced in an explosive decompression, shears one pin-head (9a, 10a) in each lock (3), and releases the safety-panel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Retention of hold-to-cabin decompression safety-panels in pressurised aircraft. The shear pins give more predictable operation and allow easier installation.
