PURPOSE:To reduce burring when a smooth layer is formed on a color filter by beveling the respective sides of at least a transparent resin coated surface of the liquid crystal substrate as specified. CONSTITUTION:The substrate 3 which is 1.1 mm thick is beveled to CO.3 mm and the peripheral edge part of the smooth layer 4 is absorbed and stored in the beveled part of the substrate 3. Consequently, the smooth layer 4 with <=Rmax0.1 mum display roughness can be formed so that its peripheral edge part does not project from the liquid crystal substrate end surface. Consequently, dust due to blur chipping is not produced in substrate storage, substrate positioning, and bundling as postprocesses and the liquid crystal substrate from which defect generation factors are removed is obtained. |
