PURPOSE:To improve frequency characteristic and S/N of a reproduced signal by providing a reproducing circuit common to a reproducing magnetic head and an erasing magnetic head, and switching reproduction signal from the magnetic head and erasing signals and reproduction signals to above-mentioned erasing magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A recording and reproducing magnetic head Hrp for high recording density and high track density is provided. The track length and track width of a precedent erasing magnetic head are made to values near to the track length and track width of a reproducing magnetic head for low recording density and low track density, and reproducing circuits 4, 5 are made common to the reproducing magnetic head Hrp and erasing magnetic head He, and reproduction signals from the reproducing magnetic head Hrp and erasing signals and reproduction signals to the erasing magnetic head He are switched by a switching circuit 7. Thereby, configuration of reproducing circuits 4, 5 is made simple, and frequency characteristic of reproduction signals becomes appropriate at the time of reproducing a magnetic disk recorded at low recording density and low track density, and S/N of reproduction signals is improved.
