摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the subject spherical aluminum nitride excellent in sphericity and useful as a filler for composite materials at a low cost by blending spherical alumina particles with a mixture of carbon powder and an organic compound as a carbon precursor and nitriding the resultant mixture under heating in an nitrogen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The subject spherical aluminum nitride has an average particle size within a range of 7-300 mum and <=1.5 ratio of the major axis to the minor axis and is obtained by the method mentioned below; Spherical alumina particles or its precursor forming alumina particles at a high temperature and a mixture of carbon powder (A) and its precursor organic compound (B) forming carbon at a high temperature in a weight ratio of (A:B)=(1:0.1)-(1:0.8) are heated in a gas flow of nitrogen and/or ammonia for nitriding.
