PURPOSE:To obtain a program number even when no program number is recorded on a tape by updating the program number and displaying it on a display section every time a start ID is detected by setting the initial value of the program number at first. CONSTITUTION:When a tape pack is set on a deck, a main control section 13 registers 1 as the initial value of music number data. When a play key 14 is depressed succeedingly, the main control section 13 applies prescribed reproduction control to detect a start ID by the output of a signal processing section 12. When the start ID is detected, the tape running direction is discriminated and 1 is added to the registered music number in case of forward direction. Thus, even if no program number is recorded in advance on the tape, the program number corresponding to the music number recorded on the tape is obtained.
