摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of knocking during transient running and to prevent lowering of an output, by a method wherein, during transient running of an internal combustion engine accompanied by the delay in response of a compression ratio varying mechanism, the ignition timing of other cylinder is corrected responding to the knocking level of each cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A compression ratio varying mechanism is so formed that, through vertical movement of an outer piston based on, for example, an inner piston, a compression ratio is changed. A knocking detecting means 1 is provided for detecting the knocking level of an internal combustion engine, equipped with the so formed compression ratio varying mechanism, at each cylinder. Based on a detected knocking level, the ignition timing of each cylinder is individually controlled by an ignition timing control means 2 to advance and delay it. A transition detecting means 3 to detect the transient state of the internal combustion engine is provided, and during detection of a transient state, the ignition timing of other cylinder is corrected by a correction means 4 according to the knocking level of each cylinder.
