<p>A device for assisting the driver of a towing vehicle (10) to align the vehicle with a trailer (12) so that the socket (25) on the trailer may be aligned over the ball (30) on the vehicle, comprises a target disc (14) on the forward end of a telescopic carrying arm (16) and an annular sighting mark (34) on the rear window (28) of the vehicle. The carrying arm is pivotally mounted in a box (18) on the front wall of the trailer in an upright position. In the operative position, the carrying arm is substantially horizontal at a height approximately equal to the eye level or mirror level of the vehicle driver. The sighting mark is also at this height. The length of the carrying arm (16) in the extended position is so chosen that the distance between the mark and the disc is equal to the distance between the socket and the ball, so that when the disc comes into contact with the rear window during reversal of the vehicle, the driver will know that the ball is under the socket.</p> |
