PURPOSE:To easily obtain an aluminum nitride powder of small particle size showing a sharp distribution of particle size by mixing a composition comprising a water-soluble compd. containing aluminum, alpha-alumina powder of specified particle size, a material showing reducing property at the calcination temp., and water, and then calcining the mixture in a nonoxidative atmosphere containing N2. CONSTITUTION:A composition comprising a water-soluble Al-contg. compd., alpha-alumina powder of <=2mum average primary particle size, a material showing reducing property at the calcination temp., and water is mixed and calcined in a nonoxidative atmosphere containing N2. As for the water-soluble Al-contg. compd., basic aluminum chloride, basic aluminum lactate, basic aluminum sulfate, and basic aluminum nitrate, etc., are preferable. As for the material showing reducing property at the calcination temp., carbon or water-soluble carbon compd. (e.g. methylcellulose) is preferable. |
