PURPOSE:To use the rotary probe for speedy and proper quality control over a material to be inspected by providing a transmission shaft which transmits rotation to a rotary body side part moving on the material to be inspected and coupling a signal generator with the transmission shaft. CONSTITUTION:A tire 6 made of an elastic member is provided around the outer peripheral surface of a rotary body 3, a side plate 4 and the transmission shaft 5 are engaged rotatably with a hollow shaft 2 through a bearing 7 and a seal 8, and a piezoelectric vibrator 10 is fixed to the shaft 2 across a back plate. The rotary probe is pressed against the material 23 to be inspected through the operation of a holder 1 to direct the piezoelectric vibrator 10 to the material 23 to be inspected and energize it with an electric signal, and then an ultrasonic wave which is radiated backward is attenuated by the back plate 9 while an ultrasonic wave which is radiated forward is passed through a liquid filler 11 and the tire 6 and transmitted to the material 23 to be inspected vertically or slantingly. A defect echo from the material 23 to be inspected is generated to a connector 15. Thus, data on the movement distance of the rotary probe from its reference position obtained automatically. |
