PURPOSE:To enable four outer peripheral surfaces of stone to be polished at the same time by disposing a polishing unit for controllably moving a grinding wheel urging body having a grinding wheel or the like removably attached to and away from the outer peripheral surface side of the stone and disposing vertically movably a grinding wheel stocker removalbly mounting a plurality of grinding wheels or the like above the stone. CONSTITUTION:Vertically placed stone W on a turntable 5 or stone stocker is moved to a stone mounting section of a transfer conveyer 6 where the upper and lower surfaces of the stone W are held and nipped by a stone holding mechanism. Next, while grinding wheels 14, 14a properly selected from the vertically movable grinding wheel stocker 16 to be attached to a polishing unit 17 are pressed against the outer peripheral surface of the stone W by the shift of a grinding wheel urging body 22, the polishing unit 17 is controllably shifted horizontally and vertically to polish the four outer peripheral surfaces of the stone W at the same time. |
