PURPOSE:To especially improve precise workability, strength and lubricating properties by compounding group Va oxides and a stabilized ZrO2 to produce cubic crystal and constituting the material for a magnetic head slider of this cubic crystal as a main body. CONSTITUTION:The material for a magnetic head slider is obtained by compounding 0.1 - 20.0 vol.% at least one kind of group Va oxides and 80 - 99.9 vol.% ZrO2 contg. a stabilizer to produce cubic crystal and constituting the material of this cubic crystal as main body. As the group Va oxides, Ta2O5, V2O5 or Nb2O5 are utilized. As a stabilizer of ZrO2, at least one kind of Y2O5, MgO and CeO2 is incorporated. The mean crystalline particle of the compounded and produced cubic crystal is regulated to <=1.5 mum. The whole constituting of the cubic crystal is regulated to >=80 vol.% of the whole crystalline structure. As the above-mentioned material for the magnetic head slider, a ZrO2-based ceramic sintered body having >=99% relative density described hereunder is utilized. For example, this sintered body is obtained by filling a powdery raw material into a graphite mold and holding it at 1300 - 1600 deg.C sintering temp. at 100 - 300 kg/cm<2> for a necessary time and sintering it. |
