PURPOSE:An antilipemic agent that contains vegetable sterol and trimethylsteroid as active principles, thus showing remarkable activity of reducing plasma cholesterol and permitting long-period administration because of its freeness of side-effects such as functional disorders in liver and kidney. CONSTITUTION:Vegetable sterol is mixed with trimethylsteroid at a weight ratio of 1 to 0.01-0.10 and made into preparation for oral administration such as tablet, powder and used as an antilipemic. The vegetable sterol is obtained from the unsaponified fraction given in the purification process of vegetable oil such as olive or soybean oil and includes beta-sitsterol. The trimethylsterol is obtained from the unsaponified fraction of rice bran oil and an example is cycloartenol. The combination of both components lowers serum cholesterol with no side-effects by an extemely lower dose compared with an antilipemic consisting of only beta-sitsterol. |
