PURPOSE:To improve the positioning accuracy of fiber pressing jigs by sliding the fiber pressing jigs on a transparent plate to align two pieces of the polarization maintaining optical fibers between the fiber pressing jigs in a tight contact. CONSTITUTION:A fiber pinching device 21 which has the smooth transparent plate 27 and a pair of the fiber pressing jigs 28 and aligns two pieces of the fibers in the tight contact state by sliding of the fiber pressing jigs 28 on the transparent plate 27 is used. The fiber pinching operation to align two pieces of the fibers by paralleling the X-axes of the fibers and aligning the Y-axes orthogonal therewith in tight contact is executed in this way with high accuracy at the time of aligning two pieces of the fibers, the axes of polarization of which are directed in a specified direction. |
