The discs (P) on which spiral tracks are recorded are stored in the magazine (M) out of which each in turn is withdrawn only far enough for its track to be read by an optical head (O) as the disc is rotated by a drive (A) engaging a hole (B) in its centre. An advantageous example of the magazine (M) has a semicircular recess, the dia. of which is slightly greater than that of the disc. This format allows the overall height of each storage compartment to be reduced, while still leaving the disc free to rotate when being played.
